In 2016 Scentre Group greenhouse gas emissions totalled 408,978 tonnes (2015: 415,375 tonnes), representing a decrease of 6,397 tonnes (2%) when compared to the previous year’s emissions.
In 2016, direct emissions (Scope 1) represented 5% of Scentre Group’s total greenhouse gas emissions and other indirect emissions (Scope 3) represented 95%.
Our portfolio’s largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions are indirect emissions (Scope 2), from our consumption of purchased electricity. We therefore spend a great deal of effort implementing initiatives and technology to reduce our electricity usage.
