This year we redeveloped several Westfield centres, bringing to life our purpose: to create extraordinary places, connecting and enriching communities.
In November, the second stage redevelopment of Warringah Mall in Sydney opened, housing more than 70 fashion, home and lifestyle retailers, including Australia’s first new concept MYER and international retailers, H&M and Sephora.
“Shoppers laze in the sun by the Dolphin Fountain in deck chairs and the retailers greet customers and staff with a new energy. This is place-making in action.”
– Karen Skinner, Centre Manager, Warringah.
Our Marion centre in Adelaide opened a new fresh food market with 14 specialty food retailers. The precinct has been styled using an industrial, market feel that will accommodate different pop-ups for shoppers on every visit.
“Adelaide markets are the oldest and most authentic in Australia and Marion is the produce heart of Australia, so we wanted to create an authentic market experience where the retailer is the expert.”
– Vanessa Canceri, National Retail Design Manager Food.
We opened the first stage of North Lakes in Brisbane with a new fresh food market, a casual dining precinct, state-of-the-art children’s playground and an Events Cinema complex. The next stage will add a further 60 stores in a new mall, connecting the existing centre to a new IKEA-owned store. More than 4,700 construction jobs have been created during both redevelopment stages in addition to 900 retail jobs, boosting employment opportunities for Brisbane’s northern suburbs.
The first stage of our Casey Central redevelopment opened in Melbourne with retailers, shoppers and the local community coming together over four days of celebration. The redevelopment added a new Aldi, Coles, Target and 96 specialty stores. To recognise our Indigenous community, the centre’s opening included a Welcome to Country, an Indigenous smoking ceremony by the local Wurundjeri Tribe, a dance performance and the unveiling of a unique piece of art; the scar tree sculpture.
