Giving tsunami kids the gift of opportunity

    COMMUNITY

$48,000 raised for Hands Across the Water

Scentre Group’s team rode 515km over five days through Thailand, raising $48,000 for Hands Across the Water.

In 2004 the South East Asian Boxing Day tsunami caused devastation, with hundreds of thousands of casualties and thousands of children left homeless and orphaned. In Thailand, Khao Lak was one of the worst affected areas. The Hands Across the Water charity was founded in 2005 to give at-risk Thai children an opportunity to continue to learn and grow in a safe environment. The charity has since built seven homes and cared for over 300 children across Thailand, 48 of whom have completed university degrees.

In February 2016 Scentre Group’s team of eight rode their bikes 515km over five days across Thailand and raised an astounding $48,000 for the children. It was an amazing opportunity for the team to see first-hand the difference Hands Across the Water makes for these children.

“If you want to make lasting change in the community, you need to make a long-term commitment.”

    – Peter Baines, Founder of Hands Across the Water.
