    Helping Foodbank and OzHarvest

    COMMUNITY

Did you know that one in seven Australian children go to school hungry, yet Australia wastes $8 billion worth of food every year?

    Collecting food for Foodbank

Foodbank rescues edible surplus food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers, helping to feed low-income and single-parent families and unemployed people. In 2016 many of our Australian centres partnered with Foodbank to collect almost 15 tonnes of non-perishable food items.

    Cooking for OzHarvest

OzHarvest is the first perishable food-rescue organisation in Australia, collecting quality surplus food from commercial outlets and delivering free meals to more than 900 charities.

Led by the OzHarvest chefs, more than 50 volunteers from Scentre Group transformed rescued food into restaurant-quality meals for disadvantaged communities. In the cooking class, they learnt to make pasta, lasagne, salads and pide from rescued food. Our teams made more than 300 meals for disadvantaged people, all from food that would have otherwise gone to landfill.
