In early 2016 several serious incidents occurred at Westfield Manukau. The centre teamed up with Manukau Business Association to improve local police presence and lower the crime rate.
Increased security
Following poor police response to each incident, centre management formed a strong relationship with the Manukau Business Association, which helps with local business area security matters.
Approaching Senior Police Management together, both parties expressed their serious concerns about the lack of visible policing and poor police responses to serious incidents. Police committed to an increase in foot patrols through the centre and local business area and to investigate the poor response to previous incidents.
Manukau now has more foot patrols and periodic pop-up police stations. Retailers have been involved in a security briefing from police and the overall police response rate to incidents has increased, resulting in a marked decrease in serious incidents of crime.
Police presence has been increased at Westfield Manukau.
